EVERY ISSUE IS A WOMAN'S ISSUE

Bella Abzug
Feminist Movement leader; US Representative (D-NY); Founder, WEDO (Women's Environment and Development Organization)

Club Introduction

A number of years ago there was a popular song from a musical comedy by Victor Herbert, "Every Day is Ladies' Day." Our topic today is "Everything is a Woman's Issue." This represents not only a change in the words and the music, it represents a change in emphasis, meaning and importance. There is probably no one better qualified in the United States today to discuss this topic than our guest, the Honorable Bella Abzug, congresswoman from New York.

A native of New York, Bella Abzug is a graduate of Hunter College and Columbia University Law School. Formerly a post-graduate student at the Jewish Theological Seminary, who has been active for many years, earning a deserved reputation in the fields of labor law, civil rights, and women's rights. She has been a member of the National Urban League, the Women's Prison Association, Members of Congress for Peace Through Law, the National Lawyer's Guild, the American Civil Liberties Union, and she is now a member of the Executive Committee of the national and state New Democratic Coalition. She was an initiator of the Women's Strike for Peace and she has been an active mover and speaker in the field of liberty for all people. And it is my great pleasure today to present to you the Honorable Bella Abzug.
