The Commonwealth Club Centennial Assembly:
Renewing Democratic Civil Society
February 27-28, 2003
Kicking off The Commonwealth Club's Centennial year, this conference recalled the founders' original motivation for organizing The Club in 1903: to inform themselves, engage in dialogue with one another and societal leaders and thereby help construct the best possible public policies. In keeping with our role as a pillar of democratic civil society, The Club's Centennial Assembly focused on six "problem areas" of current American democratic society, and looked for the bright spots - examples of how people and organizations are overcoming these challenges.
