Anson Chan, Former Hong Kong Chief Secretary and Legislative Council Member

Enjoy a rare opportunity to hear about developments in Hong Kong since 1997 from a Hong Kong political leader and eyewitness to the region’s staggering changes. Chan – the first woman and the first Chinese person to hold the role of chief secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, the second highest government position – will impart why a free and dynamic Hong Kong will continue to be so important for China and the world. Chan has taken a prominent role in the campaign for full universal suffrage for elections in Hong Kong and is well known for her stand on transparent and accountable government, on democracy and on safeguarding the rights and freedoms enshrined in the "one country, two systems" concept of China and Hong Kong.
