The Media & Presidential Politics

The Media and Presidential Politics

Diane Dwyer, News Anchor, NBC Bay Area
Randy Shandobil, Shandobil Communications; Former Political Reporter, KTVU

Another presidential election, another non-presidential process. Monday Night Philosophy welcomes two Bay Area broadcast news reporters to discuss the media's role in shaping presidential politics. Televised politics has certainly shifted emphases and made certain types of politicians obsolete, but has it really been a game changer? Perhaps the pursuit of political power has looked this way for millennia. Even so, the game as it's currently being played follows modern rules; two local news veterans will discuss how those rules are a reaction to the reality that one can only gain access to the levers of power through the proving ground of media mastery.
